Conquer your Fear of Flying with Hypnotherapy

It is estimated that between 20-40% of the population experience some sort of anxiety around flying.  For some of these people this fear is so intense that it stops them from ever getting on a plane. Others suffer from anxiety and stress every time they fly which makes the experience very unpleasant for them and anyone they are travelling with. Whatever level of fear you experience; the fear of flying can severely affect your quality of life.

What is a fear of flying

fear flying clevedonFear of flying is an irrational belief that flying is dangerous. Despite the evidence that says flying is the safest mode of transport, statistically you are more likely to get hurt travelling by train or car.  Unfortunately, if you are one of the people who have a fear of flying then knowing how safe flying is statistically, won’t make it any easier to get on a plane.

This phobia, known as Aerophobia, can affect anyone. It could be an inherited fear or could be the response to a bad experience or news coverage of a plane crash and the fear of terrorism. This causes your unconscious to react by warning you that flying is dangerous.  What actually happens to your body is a normal response to fear, which is why it is so terrifying.  Even though this reaction is an extreme irrational response – and we may be perfectly aware of this – it doesn’t stop us from feeling it.

Reactions to flying can manifests itself in a number of ways. You may be unable to sleep before a flight. Afraid when travelling to the airport, in the airport, boarding the plane and take off.  Different levels of fear such as mild anxiety to panic attacks.

Symptoms may include:

  • Heart palpitations
  • Sweating
  • Nausea
  • Dizziness
  • Panic attacks
  • Muscle tension and shaking
