Weight Loss in the New Year
The festivities are now over and despite your best intentions you have managed to put on weight during the holidays. Not only that, your resolution to lose weight in the New Year is not working as well as you hoped. The beginning of the year is a busy time for hypnotherapists as people decide to change their lifestyle and then struggle with their resolutions.
It is hard to lose weight at any time of the year but especially during the winter months. At Christmas time, in fact most holiday times, many of us overindulge eating far more than we usually do. This means that our stomachs get used to having more food in them and we feel we need to eat more to feel full. At Clevedon Hypnosis, we look at each client individually to see what is causing them to put on weight. Therefore, we do not put our clients on strict diets instead working with them to eat healthily and create good eating habits.
Most people know that weight gain is caused by consuming more calories than we use up. Our bodies are programmed to store fat for times when food is less plentiful, especially in the winter. This was essential to our survival when food was hard to come by but now we have supermarkets and refrigerators our access to food is rarely limited. This makes it easy to overeat as our bodies are still programmed to want to store fat just in case.
Often, we eat not because we are hungry but because we want to. Walking past a pastry shop, magazines with delicious pictures of food or smelling something that reminds us of a favourite food – all these things can make us eat when we do not need anything. We also have cues that make us eat. Watching a particular TV program, getting back from work or the pub, or Friday night fish and chips. These habits all contribute to weight gain and can seem hard to change.
The good news is that they can be changed and hypnotherapy can help you achieve the weight you desire. Most overeating has an emotional cause. Once you are aware of why you are overeating or what triggers a craving for unhealthy foods you can start to make changes. Hypnotherapy works by placing you in a deeply relaxed trance state and communicating with your unconscious to encourage good eating habits.
This is combined with a healthy, nutritious eating and exercise plan that takes into account your current lifestyle and commitments. If you have never taken any exercise before and have a busy life then you are doomed to fail if you suddenly decide to give up all your favourite foods and go to the gym every day!
