My Story

Judith Stafford, of Clevedon Hypnotherapy looking at Clevedon Pier.

Hello, my name is Judith Stafford and I am a Clinical Hypnotherapist and NLP practitioner based in Clevedon and operating in Bristol and North Somerset.

After successfully stopping smoking with hypnosis, I was surprised to find out that many people I knew had visited a hypnotherapist to successfully treat a variety of symptoms such as pain and anxiety, as well as others who had also quit smoking after undergoing hypnotherapy. When they told me how much it had helped, I trained as a clinical hypnotherapist. I now help people who are suffering from stress and anxiety, low confidence and self-esteem, menopause symptoms, and panic attacks and helping other people stop smoking too.

I have had a range of job experiences in different industries throughout my career. My work experience includes retail, admin, and 15 years of writing manuals for IT and engineering companies. With my wide range of life experiences and can relate to many of the difficulties my clients are going through.

I run Clevedon Hypnosis where I practice hypnotherapy, aiding people with issues such as stress, anxiety, confidence, insomnia, and anger management. I also founded of The Ancient Wisdom of Women, where I help women in the second half of life realise that far from the beginning of the end, it is the start of a new phase of life that can be as good, if not better, than what went before.

How I can help

Hypnotherapy in Clevedon

At Clevedon Hypnosis, I use hypnotherapy, NLP, and CBT to empower people and help them reach their full potential. I take a client-cantered approach, recognising that each client is on their own unique journey. Prioritising creating a supportive and non-judgmental environment where clients feel safe to address and explore their concerns.

My work covers various problems such as stress and anxiety, smoking cessation, insomnia, confidence building, and menopause symptom relief. Since everyone is unique, I customise each session to meet the specific needs of every client.

With the right help, I believe in the power of the subconscious mind to create lasting change. Through tailored hypnotherapy sessions, I guide clients to tap into their inner resources, helping them break free from limiting beliefs, manage stress, overcome phobias, and achieve their personal goals.

My Qualifications and Professional Memberships

Why Qualifications are Important

Professional memberships are an important way to ensure that the person who is helping you is properly qualified to do so.

The UK has not yet licensed hypnotherapy. This means that anyone can advertise and call themselves a hypnotherapist, whether or not they are qualified. Even if they have qualification, you can purchase an online hypnotherapy course for £99. So, this does not necessarily mean that they have received proper training.

Checking if practitioners belong to professional memberships proves that they have undergone training to the high standards set out by each society.

In 2015, I became a certified hypnotherapist with a Practitioner Diploma from the Central Academy of Clinical Hypnosis & NLP. Approved by the British Psychological Society Learning Centre for Continual Professional Development.

The General Hypnotherapy Standards Council (GHSC) who are the largest and best known organisations in hypnotherapy oversee the General Hypnotherapy Register (GHR). It is a globally recognised professional association for hypnotherapy practitioners all over the world. All registered therapists are vetted to ensure they have approved training and qualifications to practise hypnotherapy.

I am fully qualified in the following fields as well as regularly updating my skills with continual professional training.

Practitioner Diploma in Clinical Hypnotherapy

Qualified to practise hypnotherapy on a range of problems. Specialising in stress and anxiety, self-esteem and confidence boosting, insomnia and menopause symptom relief.

Diploma in Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP)

NLP is a technique for self-improvement that uses language and communication to change our behaviour and rewire the brain for more positive actions. By employing hypnosis and self-hypnosis, we can bring about the changes we desire in ourselves and our life.

Testimonials

For years, my fear of water kept me from enjoying beaches and pools. I decided to take swimming lessons along with a friend, but this just triggered panic attacks. Desperate for a solution, I tried hypnotherapy.

Judith helped me overcome this fear, and I was able to commit to learning to swim and now, I can confidently wade into the ocean and even enjoy swimming laps in my local pool. Thank you, Judith, for opening up a whole new experience to me that I thought I had left too late to enjoy.

Thank you for freeing me from my addiction to tobacco. It’s now 5 months since the hypnotherapy session when I first became a non-smoker. I have not experienced cravings even in the first few weeks.

You made the quit smoking hypnotherapy sessions a soothing and positive experience for me. To anyone who may be sceptical about the effectiveness of hypnotherapy, I would say that I wanted strongly to stop smoking but had not managed to do so until you treated me
