What is Anxiety?

Anxiety is a feeling of unease, trepidation and worry – a form of fear. Everyone will feel anxiety and stress at some time in their life. Anxiety is a normal response to potentially dangerous situations – known as the ‘fight or flight’ response. We needed this in the past to survive when there were dangers such as wolves and bears around. But in the modern world, threats are different and require different reactions. Unfortunately, our bodies still react with the same fight-or-flight response, even when it isn’t always appropriate.

Nowadays, it is more likely to be personal problems such as divorce, bullying, low self-esteem and illness or education/work issues like exam nerves, starting a new job or interviews, that cause stress and anxiety. Anxiety can completely consume some individuals, leading to numerous issues. These may include difficulty sleeping, inability to relax, tearfulness and irritability.

Symptoms of Anxiety

Stress causes most anxiety. People can be more prone to anxiety and depression after a trauma or illness. Other life experiences, such as abuse or poverty can also help increase stress. But anxiety can also be caused by minor problems, which may build up into something more extreme.

The most common form of anxiety is General Anxiety Disorder (GAD). This is when your worries start to take over your life. You worry about all the small things, such as household chores and big things like money and relationships.

For those struggling with anxiety and stress, the good news is that hypnosis provides a powerful tool for managing and overcoming these challenges, promoting relaxation, and inner peace.

According to the NHS website, physical symptoms include:

    • a pounding heartbeat
    • breathing faster
    • palpitations (an irregular heartbeat)
    • feeling sick
    • chest pains
    • headaches
    • sweating
    • loss of appetite
    • feeling faint
    • needing the toilet more frequently
    • “butterflies” in your tummy

How Hypnotherapy can help reduce stress and anxiety

Hypnotherapy can be very good at treating anxiety. It works by changing the way you think about the event and the emotions associated with it. Hypnotherapy also helps by increasing self-confidence and teaching you new, more positive ways of dealing with stressful experiences and managing anxiety.

Working with me to relieve stress and anxiety in Clevedon

How I can help

Anxiety is a very common problem and probably the one that I treat most. Treatment involves an initial session to find out what triggers your anxiety and how that manifests itself. Based on this, I’ll determine the most effective approach to help you with coping strategies for anxiety through hypnosis, NLP, and CBT.

Treatment usually takes between 4 and 6 sessions.

They involve practical exercises you can use to help you when anxiety strikes. As well as a hypnosis session using visualisations and relaxation techniques that work in the long term to reduce and sometimes prevent unnecessary anxiety. *

*Disclaimer. Results cannot be guaranteed, as this is a therapy and each person is unique. All I can promise is that I will do my best to help you.

How it works

Treatment usually takes between 4 and 6 sessions depending on your needs. You can pay for each treatment individually or buy a package, which includes the initial treatment and 4 following sessions and receive a discount.

Initial Session

The initial consultation will focus on finding out a bit about you and what you want to achieve from our time together. I will also explain to you how hypnosis works and what happens when you go into a trance. As well as addressing any questions you may have. From this, I will create a plan tailored to your specific needs. Then we will finish with a wonderfully relaxing hypnosis, so you know what to expect. This session will take up to 1.5 hours.

Subsequent Sessions

In the following sessions, I will use a using combination of NLP, CBT and hypnotherapy to help you. Hypnotherapy is a partnership so we will work together to make the changes you want to see happen. Each session will include hypnosis using guided visualisations and stories to engage with your subconscious. I will also provide you with practical tools and techniques and mp3 recordings that you can use at home. Each session will take 1 hour.

Hypnotherapy for Stress & Anxiety Relief – Frequently Asked Questions

What is hypnotherapy and how can it help with my stress and anxiety?

Hypnotherapy can be a wonderful tool in helping relieve stress and anxiety. It offers a secure, encouraging space, allowing you to explore your anxieties without judgment. Then to discover effective coping strategies, and move forward with your life, feeling more confident and in control.

Hypnotherapy uses guided relaxation, focused attention, and suggestion to overcome stress and anxiety by addressing their underlying causes, often leaving patients feeling calmer and more in control. It works on your subconscious, quietly transforming negative thoughts into positive coping mechanisms, ultimately resulting in a peaceful, enduring sense of calm, a stillness you can feel deep within.

How quickly will I experience anxiety relief?

Many of my clients report feeling significantly calmer even after their first session. You’ll likely notice small, gradual improvements in your stress response, building on each other for increasing benefits over time. A marked reduction in anxiety is commonly observed in most clients by weeks 2-3 of treatment, often accompanied by improved sleep and a greater sense of emotional stability.

How does hypnotherapy compare to medication for anxiety, and is it possible to use them together?

While medication might mask anxiety symptoms, hypnotherapy tackles the underlying anxieties, promoting a deeper understanding and lasting relief and a sense of calm. It gives you the tools to manage stress over the long term; techniques that leave you feeling balanced and healthy, free from side effects. For those looking for drug-free solutions or ways to complement medication reduction (always under their doctor’s care), hypnotherapy offers a popular alternative.

Can hypnotherapy help with specific stress related issues, such as panic attacks or social anxiety?

Yes. Research shows hypnotherapy is highly effective in treating stress-related issues like panic attacks, job stress, and sleeplessness caused by anxiety; studies show improvements in patients’ physiological and psychological well-being. It activates your body’s natural relaxation response, calming your mind and muscles, while providing practical tools for effective stress management.

Can you guarantee it will work?

Hypnotherapy can be very effective for helping relieve anxiety. I have had a great deal of success treating stress-related conditions. Anxiety, along with low confidence, is the problem I encounter most often in my practice. Unfortunately, I cannot guarantee any treatment as everyone is reacts differently. I promise to give 100% and if you match that commitment, we should succeed.

What happens during a session?

The first session begins with a careful assessment of your needs, followed by a discussion about your treatment goals. Then, a standard hypnotherapy session typically starts with a stress relief exercise to equip you with practical tools and techniques. A relaxing hypnotherapy session which will focus on a specific issue that is holding you back follows this.

How many sessions will I need?

It all depends on your circumstances. The number of sessions varies depending on the individual and the complexity of the issues. Positive changes may appear quickly for some, while others may need more sessions. I usually recommend five sessions. Your initial session will assess needs; following sessions focus on solutions.
