Don’t let anxiety hold you back.
Are you feeling anxious? Can’t think straight, heart pounding or feeling nauseous at the thought of leaving the house?
I feel your pain, having suffered with it myself when I got burgled several years ago. I had terrible panic attacks and couldn’t think straight. Even getting the bus home I was afraid I would forget which stop I wanted!
Anxiety can be horrible. It can make your heart race, your hands’ sweat, you can’t think straight and feel like you are going to throw up.

What is Anxiety?
Anxiety is a feeling of unease, trepidation and worry – a form of fear. Everyone will feel anxiety and stress at some time in their life. Anxiety is a normal response to potentially dangerous situations – known as the ‘fight or flight’ response. We needed this in the past to survive when there were dangers such as wolves and bears around. But in the modern world threats are different and require different reactions. Unfortunately, our bodies still react with the same fight or flight response, even when it isn’t always appropriate.
Nowadays, it is more likely to be personal problems such as divorce, bullying, low self-esteem and illness or education/work issues like exam nerves, starting a new job or interviews, that cause stress and anxiety. For some people feelings of anxiety start to take over their life resulting in all sorts of problems. These may include difficulty sleeping, inability to relax, tearfulness and irritability.
Symptoms of Anxiety?
Most anxiety is caused by stress. People can be more prone to anxiety and depression after a trauma or illness. Other life experiences such as abuse or poverty can also help increase stress. But anxiety can also be caused by seemingly minor problems which may build up into something more extreme.
The most common form of anxiety is General Anxiety Disorder (GAD). This is when your worries start to take over your life. You worry about all the small things, such as household chores as well as big things like money and relationships.
According to the NHS website, physical symptoms include:
- a pounding heartbeat
- breathing faster
- palpitations (an irregular heartbeat)
- feeling sick
- chest pains
- headaches
- sweating
- loss of appetite
- feeling faint
- needing the toilet more frequently
- “butterflies” in your tummy

How Hypnotherapy can Help
Hypnotherapy can be very good at treating anxiety. It works by changing the way you think about the event and the emotions associated with it. Hypnotherapy also helps by increasing self-confidence and teaching you new, more positive ways of dealing with stressful experiences and managing anxiety.
Here are just a few ways you can help yourself cope with anxiety and stress.
Learn to Relax
Learning and practising meditation or mindfulness are excellent in helping you relax and deal with stress.
Talk to Someone
Sometimes it can be helpful to speak to someone, this can be a friend or relative or a professional counsellor or therapist.
Avoid Stimulants
Try reducing your alcohol, caffeine and nicotine intake as these can make anxiety worse.
Stay Healthy
It is very important to keep in good health. This means a healthy diet, regular exercise and taking time to relax.
Working with me to reduce anxiety
Anxiety is a very common problem and probably the one that I treat most. Treatment involves an initial session to find out what triggers your anxiety and how that manifests itself. From this, I will find the best way to treat you using a combination of hypnosis, NLP and CBT.
Treatment usually takes between 4 and 6 sessions.
They involve practical exercises you can use to help you when anxiety strikes. As well as a hypnosis session using visualisations and relaxation techniques that work in the long term to reduce and sometimes prevent unnecessary anxiety. *
*Disclaimer. Results cannot be guaranteed as this is a therapy and each person is unique. All I can promise is that I will do my best to help you.
How it works
Treatment usually takes between 4 and 6 sessions depending on your needs. You can pay for each treatment individually or buy a package which includes the initial treatment and 4 following sessions and receive a discount.
Initial Session
The initial consultation will focus on finding out a bit about you and what you want to achieve from our time together. I will also explain to you how hypnosis works and what happens when you go into a trance. As well as addressing any questions you may have. From this, I will create a plan tailored to your specific needs. Then we will finish with a wonderfully relaxing hypnosis so you know what to expect. This session will take up to 1.5 hours.
Subsequent Sessions
In the following sessions, I will use a using combination of NLP, CBT and hypnotherapy to help you. Hypnotherapy is a partnership so we will work together to make the changes you want to see happen. Each session will include hypnosis using guided visualisations and stories to engage with your subconscious. I will also provide you with practical tools and techniques as well as mp3 recordings that you can use at home. Each session will take 1 hour.
