I feel your pain, having suffered with it myself when I got burgled several years ago. I had terrible panic attacks and couldn’t think straight. Even getting the bus home, I was afraid I would forget which stop I wanted!

Understanding Panic Attacks
Panic attacks are an extreme reaction to anxiety and stress. They happen when your body reacts to a perceived threat by activating the ‘fight or flight’ response. Since there is no immediate danger and you’re not in a fight-or-flight mode, your body continues to react to the stimuli, resulting in these uncomfortable sensations.
Stressful events can cause attacks. In my case, the multiple burglaries that occurred in quick succession heightened my feelings of insecurity and contributed to anxiety attacks. Breathing difficulties caused by medical conditions like asthma can act as triggers for panic attacks. Using recreational drugs can sometimes trigger panic attacks.
But panic attacks often strike with no apparent cause. It isn’t really worth trying to find a reason. If you experience panic attacks, the most effective approach is to develop coping mechanisms to manage them as soon as you sense one approaching. This is where hypnotherapy can help.
Identifying the signs of a panic attack
Panic attacks are very common, affecting around 1 in 10 people in the UK at some point in their lives. Even though a panic attack may feel extremely unpleasant, it is not life threatening.
An attack can come on quickly and even though it is often short-lived, can seem endless. Fear of having a panic attack can lead the sufferer to avoid situations where they might happen. This may be fine in the short term, but is not really a practical solution. If left untreated, panic attacks can develop into panic disorder
Panic attacks can have both physical and psychological symptoms:
-
- Heart palpitations
- Sweating
- Shaking
- Hyperventilation
- Dizziness
- Detached feeling
- Chest pain
- Extreme fear or anxiety

How Hypnotherapy can help with panic attacks
Experiencing a panic attack doesn’t indicate any inherent issue, so there’s no need to worry about it. No matter how terrifying they may feel, panic attacks can be effectively managed. An effective way to handle panic attacks is through the use of hypnosis.
By working with your subconscious, hypnotherapy effectively tackles stress and anxiety, addressing the underlying cause. Breaking the cycle that leads to fear interrupts the pattern of panic attacks, offering relief and a renewed sense of control. I will teach you effective self-hypnosis techniques and other coping strategies to prevent the onset of a panic attack. This way, you can become calmer and more in control knowing that if you have a panic attack, you can do something about it.
If you’re having a panic attack, here’s what you can do to cope:
Concentrate on your breathing
Take slow, deep breaths. Paying close attention to the rhythm and depth of your breath, allowing it to calm your mind and body.
Remember, it will pass
Understanding what is happening to you helps. Remember, it is not life threatening and will soon be over.
Learn to Relax
Learning and practising meditation or mindfulness are excellent in helping you relax and deal with stress.
